I hauled out the old Lucas starter out of my 1980 TR8 and am trying to install the Prestolite starter bought from the Wedgeshop. The problem: the new starter does not fit snugly against the block - it won't fit into the hole. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Reply to my own post - it may help others:

I got the starter in - I had to file down the outside flange of the Prestolite starter so that the diameter was about half a millimeter or so smaller. Now installed, the starter works beautifully but has me wondering about my TR8's block - tight casting tolerances or...? Oh well, I got to spend parts of several days staring at the underside of my car and cursing!

    Cheers,

    Tim
