So I'm gonna change the bottom end out. Block included.
Do I strip everything off the top end, and raise the front end to drop the subframe .
Or, just drop everything as a whole. What makes getting the trans bolts out easier?

Warning, stand by for lots of dumb questions

Do you have a nice place and enough room in the garage to prop the body for winter?????

if so the easiest way would definitely be by the bottom .......

(I'd even contemplate afterwards removing the powertrain, temporarily refitting the frt suspension w/subframe to keep the body as a roller, for ease in moving the car if needed.)

oops, sometimes I take for granted where I get to play with the car .........

Without a lift I figure removal from the bottom is just about impossible given that you would probably need a good 4 feet of room under the car .............

Michael? Me? Well you can drop the subframe out along with the engine and tranny but myself......jack the car up, pull the bonnet off. Tear down as much as you can including the front cover , radiator, exhaust, intake etc. and you can leave the heads on or not. Once the front end is stripped the undo the bell housing bolts, clutch slave and other extras and support the tranny and pull the engine from the top. Hardest part is making it up and over the power steering rack with the oil pan still on. just DONT drop the engine on the nose of the car....just a wee little bit of advice. Good luck!

Micheal, I thought about that but didn't know if it would come out. Since it's a new block ,how about pulling the pan first, of course I have a man. rack so might not be a problem
Another reason I thought about that is I thought of respraying the bonnet. The underside don't match the top.

If you have a manual rack thats easier then. It will come right out the top side. Just support the transmission.
