    This is a guide to typical cam installation on your Triumph TR8 or Rover V8 engine.


    The first picture is just the cam just before install. Clean with no lube on it.

    Next use the provided moly cam lube and be sure to cover each lobe. It is ok to be very liberal with this.

    After Cam is lubed up carefully put back into motor. DO NOT put cam lube on cam journals. A light coat of oil can be used if you feel necessary.

    For people using a 4.0 or 4.6 you will want to use our custom cam holder (pictured). We would say it is a must for people doing high performance 4.0 and 4.6's. This requires our cam holder and machining of the cam to work. This prevents cam "walking".

    If you have any other motor you can disregard the cam holder in the pictures.

    We like to apply some pure petroleum grease to the timing chain to prevent dry start.

    Here is a picture of our modified cam spacer to add an oiling effect to the cam gear for motors turning high RPM's.

    Again we have coated the cam gear in pure petroleum grease to prevent dry start.

    This is the final piece of installing cam gear setup. We use some Permatex Ultra Gray on the threads of the cam bolt to help lock in the bolt.

    Here you can see that if you have the cam and timing chain installed correctly, top and bottom tooth on the timing chain should be dot to dot. The red line in the picture connects our dots.

    Next, before you install the front cover be sure to put a liberal amount of sealant on the oil pan, especially in the crease (where our red arrow points).

    Before install lifters, put liberal amount of cam lube on lifters. If lifters have been soaked in oil, be sure to base of lifters clean before apply cam lube.

    Again to prevent dry start put a little bit of cam lube on top of each valve stem.

    We recommend using Erson ZDDP with any conventional motor oil and most certainly upon break-in. Click for product link.
    Today's motor oil do not contain the proper elements needed for older flat tappet engines.

    After initial start-up let car run at 1800-2000 RPM's for at least 20 minutes. During this time check for leaks and noises.

    Please be sure to change your oil after cam break-in and again at 500 miles.

    Question on the modified cam spacer, is that beneficial for all engines? Can I just file some slots into the spacer to do this?

    We see it most beneficial on modified engines, but yes it won't hurt other engines. We recommend having it done by a cnc shop.
