I have built a 4.9 liter (4.6 block) Rover engine with Buick 300 heads and lots of trick parts. I had the oil transfer passage in the block drilled to 5/8 inch and ported the "intermediate" front cover that is set up for a distributor. I'm now worried about internet stories of this crank driven oil failures. Should I go to the trouble of buying a new cover/pump or switch to the older distributor/cam driven oil pump from a company like TA Performance? I've got lots of oil pressure in my other engine with the TA cover. Does anyone have experience with this serpentine type of oil pump?

I have a 4.0 with the intermediate cover, distributer, fuel injection from a 1990 Rover in a MGB. This engine has about 25,000 miles, 25 lbs at idle, 35 lbs at hot 2500 rpm. I have never had an oil pressure problem- better pressure than the early covers.

I thought you guys might like to know the solution for using the Intermediate front cover with a distributor and a serpentine drive belt system that mounts to 1964 Buick 300 heads. I had a copy of the Buick alternator bracket built out of steel and made a plate fitting for the Rover 4.0 power steering pump that is required to run a serpentine set up. A serpentine system is the easiest way to counter rotate the pump and other things necessary to set this up. I have included two pictures of what it looks likeName: IMG_4747.jpg
